British Primary School of Wilanow is a young, dynamic and ambitious International Preschool and Primary School located in Warsaw’s fashionable Wilanow district. The School follows the English National Curriculum and offers a world-class education for families with children aged 3-14 (Nursery - Year 9). Patron’s Accredited Member of the Council of British International Schools (COBIS), an approved Cambridge Assessment International Education provider and part of International Schools Partnership (ISP).

Our Take

British Primary School of Wilanow (BSW) is located in the newly developed residential area of the Wilanów district in Warsaw, right next to the Temple of Providence. It offers a preschool (starting at 2.5 years of age) and primary school, with the plan to launch a general high school to provide students up to the age of 18 the possibility of earning an international high school diploma. Right now, children in preschool and primary school come from many different countries, including Poland. Education is based on the British curriculum and guidelines of the Polish Ministry of National Education. BSW is a member of the Council of British International Schools (COBIS), and it fully implements the educational standards of this organization. It also undewent full accreditation which gave it the right to implement “Cambridge Assessment International Education” program ("Cambridge" in short). Learning is conducted mostly in English, with some Polish classes and foreign language classes. For students who don’t speak English well, the school provides intensive language courses and additional support during classes. BSW pays attention to charity work and community involvement.

Curriculum

Central to your child's school experience is the underlying curriculum taught in the classroom. "Curriculum" refers to both what is taught and how it's taught. When considering the different curricula outlined in the next few pages, keep in mind that few schools fall neatly into one category or another. Most schools' curricula comprise a blend of best practices drawn from multiple curriculum types. Having said that, most schools do have a general overall curriculum type. Primary Curriculum: Traditional
Traditional curricula tend to be very content-based and rooted in the core disciplines. It is a structured approach that involves the teacher delivering a unified curriculum through direct instruction. Students usually learn by observing and listening to their teacher, studying facts and concepts in textbooks, and completing both tests and written assignments - which challenge students to not only demonstrate their mastery of content but their ability to analyze and deconstruct it critically. Class discussions are also used to create critical dialogue around the content of the curriculum.

Academic-based preschools and Kindergartens are the most structured of the different types, and have a strong emphasis on math and reading readiness skills. These programs aim to expose children to what early-elementary school is like. While time is still allotted to free play, much of the day is built around explicit lessons guided by the teacher. Classrooms often resemble play-based ones (with different stations set up around the room), but at an Academic program the teacher leads students through the stations directly, and ties these activities to a whole-class lesson or theme.

What BPSW says about their special need support: We are able to offer the services of our Psychologist as well as a Speech Therapist to help children who have specific learning needs to access the curriculum; however, we are currently only able to accept children whose learning needs are relatively mild, on a case-by-case basis. British Primary School of Wilanow, Warsaw offers a new and exciting option for families in Warsaw and I trust this website gives you an insight into this young, vibrant international primary school.

Our school is known for its warm welcome, its family atmosphere, its small class sizes and individual attention. It also has a very strong reputation for academic rigour and excellence with a culture of respect, courtesy and good manners. Set on the edge of glorious countryside, yet still in the heart of fashionable Wilanow, the school campus is a modern one with ambitious plans and with the resources and space to grow and develop.

We want all students to become better people, in their learning, in their interaction with others and in their understanding of the world. Through this reflection we call on this community to act to make our school, our locality and the world a better place.
