Highlights from the interview
I wanted a school that was going to give him a well-rounded education, not just academics … and when I saw the community and the happiness of the kids being at the school, and it just seemed have this where they were interested in creating citizens of the world, not just good students, but people who cared about the world, people who cared about each other and cared about doing well and good things in the world.
Both of my children love being at the school. They've had really good experiences with friends and teachers… I think it's given them a lot of confidence. I think it's made them sure of themselves and also let them know their strong points and the things that they're good at.
The teachers always seem to be there to help them, to lift them up, and to show them where they are going wrong, and then also how they can do better. The teachers really seem to take an extra effort to understand the kids and understand where they're coming from and what might be hindering them from doing better in a subject.
One thing that surprised me about the school was the awards that they give out every month to the students who best display the IB principles… It helps the kids to feel positive and feel like they're actually doing the work.
I think some of the school's values include communication, education, partnership, inclusivity, community, acceptance. Those are the ones that I really see enforced at the school, that the school is working towards, striving towards, and it comes across really well just talking with the teacher and the admin and the children themselves.
From the very beginning, my interaction with the teachers and the admin has been very positive … The teachers, the admin are always willing to help, willing to sit down with you and talk, and if there's a problem, willing to discuss and work it out.
I have communication with all of my children's teachers, and I do appreciate the once-a-month phone calls to catch up on the progress of my children. I think this helps keep me in the loop so that we're on the same page at all times.
When it comes to recommending a school, what I always tell parents is, you have to know your child … know where they excel, what they're looking for, what makes them happy…I wanted a full experience, and Lynn Rose gave that to us.
If I had to do a school search all over again, I wouldn't do anything different. I do believe that Lynn-Rose is the right school for us, which is why both of my kids are still there. I really believe that when I walked into the classrooms at Lynn Rose, I had such a great feeling there. I had been to other schools. I had been on other tours, but I didn't have that same feeling.
