Highlights from the interview
My association with Lynn-Rose School goes back many years. I have three daughters, and my eldest joined the school in 2009. At that time, Lynn-Rose was primarily a middle school, as the high school had not yet been established. My eldest daughter completed middle school there and then moved on. My second daughter, however, was able to complete high school at Lynn-Rose and is now studying computer engineering at the University of Toronto. My youngest daughter is currently in Grade 11. The school has always been a positive experience for them.
The teaching staff at Lynn-Rose has consistently been exceptional. The school provides an environment that prepares students for the transition from high school to university, which can be a significant jump. My daughters were able to compete and excel in their university studies, thanks to the strong foundation they received. The school maintains high academic standards while also offering excellent teacher support. Teachers ensure students are guided, supported, and never left behind, without compromising academic rigour.
A key strength of Lynn-Rose is the relationship between parents, teachers, and students. This three-way connection is essential for student success. Parents must be actively engaged alongside teachers, while students must also take responsibility for their education. Over the years, the school has expanded from a junior school to a middle school and eventually to a high school. Initially, I did not expect the school to offer high school education, so it was a pleasant surprise when they did.
My second daughter completed the IB Programme at Lynn-Rose, which is known for its academic rigour. In Canada, high school students typically follow one of three distinct programs: the Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD), the Advanced Placement (AP) program, or the International Baccalaureate (IB). Among these, IB is the most demanding. I was initially unsure whether the school would be able to provide the necessary support, but I was pleasantly surprised. The teachers stood by my daughter, offering extra classes and additional guidance to ensure she successfully completed her IB diploma. The school's commitment to delivering on its promises was evident.
Lynn-Rose has a diverse and inclusive student body, with students from various cultural backgrounds. The school fosters an environment where students respect each other’s values and traditions. This inclusivity is one of its strengths, creating a supportive and cosmopolitan atmosphere.
The student-teacher ratio at Lynn-Rose is well-maintained, allowing for individualized attention. In many schools, large class sizes can prevent teachers from addressing students' specific needs, but Lynn-Rose ensures that each student receives personalized support. Teachers also conduct continuous assessments, identifying gaps early and addressing them promptly. If a student struggles, feedback is shared with both the student and their parents, helping them take corrective steps before issues escalate.
Academically, Lynn-Rose provides the rigor necessary for students to excel in their chosen fields. Many graduates go on to top programs in Canada, whether in business, fine arts, or STEM fields. My daughters, for example, pursued engineering, with my second daughter gaining admission to one of the most competitive programs in the country.
Beyond academics, the school encourages holistic development through clubs, leadership opportunities, and community engagement. High school students are given the chance to take on leadership roles, fostering responsibility and a sense of contribution to society. Additionally, the school promotes sustainability initiatives, educating students about environmental responsibility and encouraging them to become part of the solution rather than the problem.
Private schooling is a significant financial investment, and Lynn-Rose is no exception. Education costs are rising and private schooling a substantial commitment for families. However, I believe it is a wise investment, as it provides students with opportunities and a strong foundation for their future. That said, enrolling a child in a private school does not mean a parent’s responsibility ends there. Parental involvement remains crucial. Simply paying tuition does not guarantee success; parents must remain engaged in their child's education, working alongside teachers and supporting their child's progress.
For parents considering Lynn-Rose, early planning is key, especially for high school students. The high school years are critical, and students should have a clear vision of their academic and career goals from Grade 9. Parents should communicate their child's aspirations to the school, as Lynn-Rose offers mentoring and guidance to help students achieve their goals. The school has experienced teachers and mentors who can provide valuable support throughout this journey.
