(5) Student Experience

I got math tutoring from Merit. So the one on one was really great and the teacher helped with every question until I understood everything. She was really patient. I want to study business so the math mark is really important. The school was a really nice place and near my house. You can get there by bus. But I was online so once I saw the school I did not go back in person because of COVID. I have been back to visit and the place feels the same. Very open and warm feeling for everyone. As long as you are respectful of everybody you will love being here. I wish I could be in person but because of the pandemic, it is hard to answer this question.

(5) School Leadership

The whole place was great. Chill but also giving a lot of attention to all of us students. It doesn't feel like a lot of pressure because they spend all their time helping us and showing us they care and giving us lessons. Overall I was happy with what I was learning. If I did not understand something, especially in the functions course the tutor would go over everything slowly and increase all the ideas. At first, I really needed a lot of help but after a while, I got moving very quickly.

(5) Teaching

The teacher was great. She went over everything in a way I could understand. The teacher also used Khan Academy videos and tons of practice. That is exactly what I needed. I met her at first every day and then as I got better I got tutoring for two times a week. I found the teachers really helped me to do better in math class and feel successful because of that. I got the mark I needed to move forward in my regular math class so I could finish off my credits. I feel confident about picking up any math in my business program in the future. So the work with the tutoring is helping me keep my options open for anything I want to do in the future.

(5) Academics

Just right. This work will help me in the future. Right now I am in university and I can see myself applying to business programs. With the tutoring, I have the foundation where I don't have to go backwards to meet the requirements for my programs. Even though I did not go directly into my first choice of program, I am able to apply for business because I have the math credit already done. Also, the extra work was really important because it showed me that just because I don't get something right away if I work at it I can be successful. It was the first time I had to try hard at school and it was great to have a tutor that really cared and knew how to help me.

(5) School Life

My tutoring was online which really worked for me. The teacher was always on time and had lessons ready for me to review. She went over the program I was already doing in class with my regular school. When we had tests she reviewed everything. My regular math class teacher was really impressed with the extra help I was getting. So I kept the tutoring up for the next two years. I went from everyday to two times a week for extra help. So with everything considered and the extra help during the summer I was able to graduate with a good average and got my first year of university scholarship. So I was really happy with the online format that worked for an introvert like me.

(5) Admissions

I applied as an after-school tutoring program. The principal gave me an interview and I filled out a form. Then the principal talked to me about the tutor. When I met the tutor I was told what the expectations were and they were all clear. Once we got into the class I found I got rid of all my stress. Before I felt like a failure in math. When I took the course I felt slowly better. Overall my confidence improved and I learned to trust my teachers.
