Bond Art Night, Talent Show and Sleep-over!

On March 4th, Bond had a great art and talent show evening event and invited our parents. The three main sections of this event included the Arts Night, the Talent Show and a Sleepover that raised funds for a local Breakfast Club.

As parents walked into the gym at Bond, they immediately entered an art world where different examples of art made by the students were displayed along the wall. They included pencil drawings, paintings, designs and pictures. Some parents even joined a special workshop to learn painting skills from Mr. Lennert Vonk, the Art Teacher at Bond; and then displayed their own paintings proudly.

Bond Senior Choir’s performance marked the start of Talent Show, and led the way for parents to enjoy the annual show together. From tap dancing, pop singing, playing piano or guitar, our Bond students showed their great talents and impressed all the audience.

Under Bond teachers’ supervision, many students had a sleepover on campus with no meals, to experience starving and hunger. Laura Harvey, the Bond Vocal Music Teacher and Co-organizer of the event, mentioned that the purpose of this sleepover was to engage students in understanding how fortunate and privileged they are as well as the importance of helping other children.

“This event is a fundraising event for the Breakfast Club of Canada, and we’ve been doing it for the past five years at Bond. One in seven students in Canada go to school without breakfast, so Breakfast Canada gives funds to start breakfast programs in schools for students who cannot get it regularly.” said Ms Harvey. “We raised $750 from this event, and $951 in total. This means we will provide 951 meals for children.”

“When you see the quality of the children’s artwork, and when you see the reaction of their parents, it is really impressive!” said John Healey, Principal of Bond Academy. “I can see the pride in the parents’ eyes, some even with tears. As the artists and performers at this event, Bond students are truly amazing!”
