Terrance Stanley "Terry" Fox CC OD (July 28, 1958 – June 28, 1981) was a Canadian athlete, humanitarian, and cancer research activist. In 1980, with one leg having been amputated, he embarked on a cross-Canada run to raise money and awareness for cancer research.
Terry Fox was diagnosed with osteogenic sarcoma (bone cancer) in his right leg in 1977 and had his leg amputated 15 cm (six inches) above the knee. While in hospital, Terry was so overcome by the suffering of other cancer patients that he decided to run across Canada to raise money for cancer research.
Join us in our school wide Kick off assembly on September 16th and our school wide run on September 29th. K-4 Students will be running their Marathon outside on the hill, while students in Grades 5-8 will challenge their athletic abilities and endurance with a block long marathon around the community. They will collect stamps for each lap completed, to honour and remember the spirit of Terry Fox on that day. Parents, students and community members will celebrate his legacy together, and Terry's importance lessons about determination, perserverance and hard work. Students have engaged in fundraising for the month of September to support the important work done by the Terry Fox Foundation and its affiliates.
