The personalized, inquiry-based approach allowed me to explore my passions while developing critical thinking, leadership, and problem-solving skills. The flexibility of the program encouraged independence, pushing me to take ownership of my learning and challenge myself in ways that traditional education often doesn't. Through hands-on projects and real-world applications, I learned to connect with my community and become a Social Change Maker. Whether through collaborating on community initiatives, engaging in meaningful discussions, or tackling global issues, R.I.S.E. instilled in me a deep sense of responsibility and purpose. More than just academics, R.I.S.E. taught me that education is about impact, growth, and lifelong learning. The supportive environment, passionate educators, and like-minded peers made it a place where students weren’t just encouraged to succeed but empowered to create change. I’m proud to be an alum, and I’m excited to see future students embrace the same opportunities for transformation, leadership, and innovation. Reflecting on my time at R.I.S.E. Academy, the leadership and administration, particularly under Principal Rebecca Chambers, stood out for their innovative and student-centered approach. The administration fostered a culture of mutual respect, treating students as active partners in their educational journey. This collaborative environment instilled confidence within the student community, as we felt our voices were heard and valued. The leadership was proactive in addressing concerns, maintaining open lines of communication with both students and parents. Disciplinary matters were handled with fairness and a focus on restorative practices, contributing to a positive and inclusive school atmosphere. This dedication creates a nurturing environment where students are empowered to become proactive change-makers.

What stood out most was the passion and knowledge the teachers brought to the table. They didn’t just teach the material—they made it come alive. They were always willing to engage in meaningful conversations, answer questions, and provide constructive feedback that helped me improve. Teachers at R.I.S.E. fostered a love of learning by connecting lessons to real-world issues, especially through the Social Change Maker Model. They encouraged us to think critically, explore our interests, and challenge ourselves. They also created a safe space where mistakes were viewed as learning opportunities, not failures. We weren’t just passive learners—we were encouraged to take charge of our education. Teachers valued our input, allowing us to shape projects around our interests. The skills I gained at R.I.S.E. extended beyond academics—things like adaptability, communication, and problem-solving are already proving valuable as I prepare for university.

It’s inspiring to see how alumni remain engaged, instead of organized reunions or structured events, these connections happen naturally through shared experiences, common interests, and continued involvement in school-led or community initiatives. These meetups feel like an informal alumni network, where former students stay connected through shared experiences and a commitment to giving back.

As someone who attended R.I.S.E. Academy while also being enrolled in my home school, I found that R.I.S.E. played a valuable role in preparing me for university. Since I was still connected to my home school, I relied on their guidance counselors for university applications and post-secondary planning. However, R.I.S.E. offered flexibility and unique learning experiences that made my application stand out. The academy also encouraged community involvement and leadership, which helped me build a strong portfolio. Attending both R.I.S.E. Academy and my home school gave me the best of both worlds.
