Children in Montessori classes learn at their own, individual pace and according to their own choice of activities from hundreds of possibilities. Learning is an exciting process of discovery, leading to concentration, motivation, self-discipline, and a love of learning.

Our Take

Casa dei Bambini, Warsaw Montessori School is a private international Montessori school based in the heart of Warsaw. Founded in 1999, it offers a toddler program (18 to 36 months), preschool (2.5 to 5 years) as well as primary (6 to 12 years) and secondary schools (13 years and older). School campuses are located in two places: Szwoleżerów Street, next to Łazienki Park, and Izabelin, close to the Kampinos National Park. At all the levels the instruction is bilingual - in Polish and English. The school uses the Montessori approach, based on the teachings of Dr. Maria Montessori. Children learn independently under the watchful eye of a teacher, at their own pace, and in well-organized and structured multi-age classrooms. Children help to take care of the classroom, as well as playgrounds, sports facilities, gardens, and an animal pen. Te school's major aims are to develop children’s focus, self-reliance, self-confidence, respect for others and their work, and helpfulness. The program is enriched with plenty of extracurricular activities, including French-language classes, yoga, soccer, music and rhythm, ballet, theatre, and arts.

Warsaw Montessori School operates on five campuses—four in the centre of Warsaw and one in Izabelin. The school organization calls itself "Warsaw Montessori Family.” The school includes a bilingual, Montessori facilities at the elementary, and high school stage of child developmen. The school, which has been operating since 2002, is also applying for accreditation to introduce the IB DP program.

Curriculum

Central to your child's school experience is the underlying curriculum taught in the classroom. "Curriculum" refers to both what is taught and how it's taught. When considering the different curricula outlined in the next few pages, keep in mind that few schools fall neatly into one category or another. Most schools' curricula comprise a blend of best practices drawn from multiple curriculum types. Having said that, most schools do have a general overall curriculum type. Primary Curriculum: Progressive
Progressive (sometimes called "inquiry based" or "discovery based") curricula use students' interests and their natural curiosity as the driver for instruction. Teachers provide materials, experiences, tools and resources necessary for students to investigate a topic or issue. Students are then encouraged to explore, reflect on their findings, and discuss answers, solutions, and insights.

Montessori programs aimed at preschool and Kindergarten- aged children allow young learners to choose which "tasks" or activities interest them. These tasks centre around special Montessori puzzles -- the essential features of these puzzles being they contain a "right answer" and allow for self-correction. A strong emphasis is therefore placed on learning being concrete and rooted in practical experience, along with children developing a sense of self-sufficiency and confidence. Specially trained teachers act as guides, introducing children to progressively more difficult materials when appropriate. A Montessori classroom is typically very calm and orderly, with children working alone or, sometimes, in small groups.

A school with a "supportive" academic culture focuses more on process than short-term outcomes: academic performance is a welcomed side-benefit, but not the driving focus. This does not mean the school lacks standards, or has low expectations for its students: a school can have a supportive academic culture and still light the fire of ambition in its students. It does mean, however, that the school provides a less intensive culture than schools with a "rigorous" academic classification, and is focused more simply on instilling a love of learning and life-long curiosity.

These are: French lessons, yoga, gymnastics, football, jujitsu, music with rhythmic activities, dance, theatre, art activities and ballet. Communication with the parents In order to allow the parents to become better acquainted with our teaching methods, pedagogical principles and the individual development of the pupil, we offer parents many opportunities to interact, meet and communicate with our teachers (parent’s meetings, individual parent’s conferences, Montessori workshops etc.).

Małgosia Tarnowska, Owner and founder Warsaw Montessori Family, AMI Montessori Guide

I am the happy owner and founder of the Warsaw Montessori Family.
The Warsaw Montessori family consists of branches of bilingual Montessori
education at every stage of a child development; from infant and toddlers
through Casa level (kindergarten) and elementary to high school.
Montessori education has been my passion and life for many years.
Combined with a love of living in the closeness and nature, Montessori
traditions and philosophy give me peace and a sense of security.
