The big picture on Academie Providence

We summarized the school ourselves

All private and independent schools are unique — designed to a specific purpose and for a specific class of learner — and Academy Providence is a particularly good example of that. It was founded in 2002 as an expression of the work of the Antonine Sisters in Canada and the values of the Catholic church. The curriculum adopts a multicultural gaze, even in the earliest years, in part through a substantial attention to languages. Likewise, it adopts the hands-on, group inquiry approach of the Montessori method. That’s a lot, perhaps, but it works. Families that enroll here are drawn by the strength of the academic program as well as the values that inform the delivery of the curriculum. The school is an expression of a Catholic order, though one of the tenets of the Antonine Sisters is to provide education to all people, something that is reflected in the diversity of the student body.

We questioned the school adminstration

Academie Providence: Parent Review from randa Saryeddine

Watch our parent interview with randa Saryeddine to get the inside scoop on what it’s like to have a child attend Academie Providence.

Nursery/Toddler (current) — My daughter Elise has been attending Académie Providence since the age of 18 months, and she is now in 2nd grade. Over this time, she has blossomed personally and academically. All of her teachers have been exceptional, going above and beyond the call of duty to provide not only a well-rounded academic experience, but also learning how to navigate the complex world we live in with curiosity, optimism and important values like kindness, empathy, helping others, caring for the environment, etc. Academically, the Académie excels at languages (French, English, Arabic, and others) - especially writing and reading, where I have often noticed Elize being much more advanced than peers attending other schools. We have loved seeing the different methods used in teaching, many of them extremely innovative and creative. The school is also a tight-knit community, and other parents are exceptionally supportive of one another. Elize has made many friends and feels they are her extended family. The school offers many opportunities for extracurricular activities, outings, and special events, including learning about the world through books, taking care of school pets, a spelling contest, holiday concerts, and more. Overall, my daughter would not want to even consider changing schools. She is very happy.

Gr. 1 (current),JK (current),JK (current) — While all of our children are different, and while they love home above all, all three of them love school. This is particularly true given their relationship with their teachers, but naturally is also nurtured by healthy relationships with their peers. I am tempted to share the example of our youngest daughter who started school this year after having been at home for four years. She is shy, and the shock of starting school was real. Yet very promptly she was made to feel safe, and gradually she has been blooming. She has developed trust and affection for her teacher, thus cultivating a very positive association with school and learning. I have also been pleased to see that, while we did witness an episode of early bullying directed at our older son, this was dealt with promptly and was an occasion for the growth and development of virtues. I do not think any school is completely free of such experiences since childhood is a natural time for growing minds to test boundaries. What distinguishes Académie Providence may be the way in which this episode was addressed harmoniously by school leadership, by the teacher, by classmates, and by the two students' respective families - such that I think we can safely say this has made the class stronger and more united.

Gr. 5 (current),Gr. 3 (current),Gr. 7 to Gr. 8 — Our children arrived during Covid, after a year of homeschooling. They were a bit behind but the teachers helped them get up to speed. The teachers and principal took a personal interest in helping our children catch up. One of them lost a year during Covid, and she was able to work really hard with the help of the school and teachers, and get back to the year that she was supposed to be in. They like the kids, the small classrooms, relationship with teachers and administration. They are disappointed the school does not go beyond Gr. 8. The child who has already graduated from Providence has kept in touch with most of her classmates. They still meet occasionally for special events when time permits.

My two kids have attended Academy Providence since junior kindergarten. At first, my husband and I looked for a school that would offer high-quality education, to us that meant a school with a strong academic curriculum. Yet, over the years, we have learned that Academy Providence offers a kind of education that goes beyond academic excellence. My kids, already in Grade 4 and 6, are a real testament that the School has instilled in them the values of respect, discipline, honesty, caring; values that are essential to living a fulfilled and happy life. My kids' experience is very positive; they are happy, having developed strong relationships with their teachers and friends, and every day they long for school. As a parent, I cannot ask for more!

From the point of view of my daughter. She loves the teachers, she is joyful when she hears from them. Kids routinely tell their teacher "Madam je t'aime". During the distance learning she misses her school and being in class with her friends. She likes the challenging curriculum at their age as she doesn't get bored. She likes the multi-cultural environment and the sense of community the school engenders. Although she prefers instructions in class. She likes that during online learning the teachers often take the time to engage with the student like getting them to dance or such. Her dislikes are few, she doesn't like the official costume at times and sometimes she doesn't like the Arabic classes we have her signed up for (despite the fact she is good at it).
