French Family Begins a New Chapter at Lycee Louis Pasteur

Calgary - One of Lycée Louis Pasteur's newest hires, Peggy Bonnal, is from Quincy-Voisins, a small town in north-central France. Peggy, her husband and their two children recently left behind their family and friends to begin a new chapter in Calgary. She brings 15 years of teaching experience to the role of teacher and Maternelle Coordinator. 

“I’m really excited to be in Calgary and to be teaching at Lycée Louis Pasteur,” says Peggy. “This school really is unique in Calgary. To my knowledge, nowhere else can children get the opportunity to learn French from so many native French speakers from France!”

Indeed, this year, 96 per cent of the teachers delivering the French curriculum have received their teaching credentials from the French Ministry of Education. Hiring practices like this one are unique in Calgary and reflect the school's partnership with the French Ministry of Education. 

“When I was deciding where to move, it was important to me that I teach in a school that values multiculturalism and multilingualism,” explains Peggy. “I feel it’s important to teach those values and I also want my children, who are now enrolled at Lycée Louis Pasteur, to be exposed to cultures and languages on a daily basis.”

This school year, the Lycée welcomes students from 32 nationalities, all of which will one day emerge from the school as academically-adept students who are truly bilingual.
