Breakdown
Overall Experience 3
My overall experience was a challenging but ultimately rewarding one. There were very clear goals on what to complete, and the work was laid out in an easily digestible way. There were struggles to complete assignments of course, but I came out of it more knowledgeable about the subject I was studying. The practice exams really helped me with the test and were a great way to prepare. The essays were very interesting things to write as I came across many different opinions when writing about something. A prospective student should expect lots of work and slideshows. I had a nice time with this course. It helped me express my thoughts and opinions in the form of essays. It taught me a lot of things about English that I didn't know before.
School Leadership 4
I felt very respected by the administration at Ontario Virtual School. Whenever I had a question the teacher made sure to answer it as soon as she could. She also gave me tips and gave me resources that helped me study the course material better. The teacher was very forthcoming in soothing my apprehensions when doing specific assignments. Overall the administration at this school is great and know what they are doing. They were incredibly, resourcefully, helpful in many different ways.
Teaching 4.5
I had a very great teacher when I did my course at Ontario Virtual School. She helped me in many ways and helped me get better at the coursework. She offered wonderful praise when I did well on an assignment. But I also got some very revealing constructive criticism that helped me think thoughtfully about my errors. My teacher respected me and encouraged the hard work I put into each and every assignment I did. My teacher challenged me to do my best and try harder after I did not do particularly well on an assignment or a test. Prospective families can expect to see teachers who can answer questions in a helpful manner. The teachers here are great at their jobs.
Academics 3.5
Ontario Virtual School had a very rigorous but fair academic program. There were many presentations and texts that needed to be read. The atmosphere was laid back as I completed the course I took at my own pace. A strength of the academics program at Ontario Virtual School was that it was very illuminating on aspects of a subject that I was not privy to before. I would have never known about the different schools of literary criticism had it not been for an entire unit of the course dedicated to their study. A weakness of the academics program at Ontario Virtual School was that sometimes the coursework was quite hard to understand and wrap my head around. Overall, it was a great academic program.
School Life 3
I was quite ambivalent about the school life at Ontario Virtual School. But that was more due to the fact that I was studying a lot. However, there were some peer-reviewed assignments in my course. The feedback and praise I got from them encouraged me and gave me a second look at my work. The other students were very cheerful and encouraging when commenting on the poems we were made to write for a poetry assignment. Although I did not interact with the other students a lot, I got a very good impression of them. They seemed to be very nice people. I thought they were generally very happy and open. The students were very passionate about completing their work in the best manner possible. Overall, a very laid-back student atmosphere.
Admissions 3
I'd say a piece of advice about the admissions process is to be open and honest about what you want out of it. The admissions officers were very forthcoming in what I had to do in order to get admitted. They told what prerequisite courses I had to take. What the tuition would be. They were very honest in what was necessary for admission. The process was a bit stressful, but the admissions officers did a lot to soothe my anxieties with the relevant knowledge.
University placement and counselling 3.5
The university application process was very forthcoming. I felt supported, no matter what my anxieties were about the entire process. It was a very open, transparent process that put me at ease with what I wanted to study. I was given appropriate guidance from the get-go. They answered all my questions in a professional, thoughtful, and comforting manner. I was told what exact courses I needed to complete, what credits I needed to have, the cost of tuition, and much more. Through every step of the way, the process was incredibly enlightening in many different areas. It helped me consider the pros and cons of a specific program, and I was able to make a prudent judgment about what I wanted to do.
