(5) Student Experience

Ontario Virtual School is an amazing school, allowing students to learn the required materials in a timely manner, as well as effectively. I love OVS because it helped me improve not only my skills in both the courses I took (grade 10 French and grade 11 English). OVS found innovative ways that allowed me to learn and grow as a student, as well as succeed in both of my courses. I don’t believe there is anything I would change about the school; everything is very well organized, teachers are very helpful, and the lessons are very detailed. All of the assignments are very easily accessible, and it is very easy to understand what is being asked of you. I am very grateful for the experience I’ve had at this school. The exam is another part of the course. I was required to book an exam for both grade 10 and 11 courses. This is a very simple process in which they have a very descriptive reference sheet that will come either your lessons.

(4.5) School Leadership

I have lots of respect for the Ontario Virtual School staff members. It was very easy to get in contact with both teachers as well as administration. Whenever I had any questions either about the course or about the program itself, it was very easy to find help and figure out who to contact. Every email I had sent to my teacher had been answered in 24 hours or less. The staff is very interactive and ready to help, and I have lots of respect for how much work they put in for the students.

(5) Teaching

I believe the teachers don’t ask too much of their students, I believe they ask the perfect amount. I can always tell what my teachers expect from me because of the multiple resources on the website that have been able to answer all my questions about the assignments. My teachers always wanted the best for me. Emails would be sent to me as well as my parents when issues arose, for example, if I didn’t log on to the website for a long period, you would get an email reminding you that the teacher wanted you to succeed, and make sure you would complete the course in time. I believe they expect me to log in and complete the work that is required for me to complete, before the deadline of 365 days. I also believe they expect me to ask questions whenever I need additional help.

(4.5) Academics

I believe the work was just right. It was never too difficult, it was the perfect amount of push as well as simplicity. In my grade 11 English course, I learned very important skills on how to enhance my writing. This will be useful for the rest of my life, as writing is such an important part of any career. The literary devices I’ve learned can also help with the rest of my high school education and my post-secondary education. For my grade 10 French course, I learned a lot more about the language and grammar. I became more confident in using the language. And this is very helpful to me as I will be able to further my high school education in French and obtain my French certificate.

(5) School Life

Because the school is entirely virtual, I would show them how to access their course, it is very simple to maneuver the website. You log in, and you’re sent right to your page where you can see all the courses you have been enrolled in. Then, you can click on lessons, and it will bring you right to where you need to be to start your learning. I would also show where you would need to go to book your exam, both of the courses I’ve taken have a request and exam, and to do so you’ll need a proctor, but you can easily gain access on more information to learn how schedule and book your exam. Again, it is very easy to locate all the information on the website, and if you have any additional questions, you can always contact your teacher.

(5) Admissions

Admission for OVS was very simple and straightforward. You log onto the website, select the course you wish to sign up for, pay for the course, and then the process is complete. Once you're logged onto the website, you must submit your prerequisite (for example, for grade 11 English, I had to show my grade 10 English report card). This ensures that you passed the course(s) that is/are required for you to take this next course. This process is very simple and straightforward, and they check your prerequisites very quickly.
