(5) Student Experience
I took Grade 11 Chemistry through Ontario Virtual School and had a really positive experience! The course was well-organized, and the content was explained clearly in a way that made it easy to follow, even online. The lessons were broken down into smaller sections, with lots of visuals, practice questions, and real-world examples to help reinforce the material. My favourite part was the flexibility. I could go at my own pace, which made it easier to balance with my other classes and responsibilities. The teacher was very responsive and helpful whenever I had questions, and the feedback on assignments was always detailed and encouraging. This course helped me build a strong foundation in chemistry and made me feel more confident going into Grade 12. I'd definitely recommend OVS to any student looking for a reliable and supportive online chemistry course—it’s not much different from day school!
(5) School Leadership
I respect the school leaders and teachers at OVS. Even though it's an online school, the communication from the staff was clear and professional. My teacher responded to questions in a timely manner and provided helpful feedback on assignments. The guidance team was also supportive when I needed help with course planning and deadlines. I think they do a great job keeping the course organized and making expectations clear for students. I would appreciate even more frequent check-ins or optional live Q&A sessions to feel more connected, but overall, I feel supported and respected by the leadership at OVS.
(5) Teaching
The teaching in the Grade 11 Chemistry course at OVS was overall very clear and well-structured. I felt that the teacher set fair expectations and didn’t ask too much or too little of students. Each lesson came with clear learning goals, examples, and practice questions, which made it easier to understand what I needed to focus on. The assignments and tests were explained well, and the success criteria were easy to follow. I appreciated how the teacher provided timely and helpful feedback on my work, which helped me improve. When the teacher talked about success, I felt they meant actually understanding the concepts, not just memorizing formulas. It felt like they wanted us to be confident in applying chemistry to real-life situations. The overall teaching approach made me feel supported and motivated to do well.
(5) Academics
The academic level of the Grade 11 Chemistry course at OVS felt just right for me. Some units were more challenging than others, especially topics like stoichiometry and solutions, as well as gases, but the lessons and practice questions helped me understand the material step by step. The course pushed me to think critically and apply concepts, not just memorize information, which I really appreciated. I believe what I'm learning will definitely be useful later in life, especially if I choose a science-related field like nursing or health care. Even if I don’t go into chemistry, understanding basic scientific reasoning, lab skills, and problem-solving is important for many careers and everyday life. Overall, the academic content was engaging, well-balanced, and taught in a way that made it easier to absorb and apply.
(5) School Life
Since Ontario Virtual School is an online school, the school experience is different from a traditional in-person school. If I were to give a virtual tour to a group of visitors, I would first take them to the main dashboard or homepage after logging in. That’s where students access their courses, announcements, and important updates. It’s the central hub of everything, so it gives a good first impression of how organized and student-friendly the school is. From there, I’d show them what a typical course looks like—specifically, the layout of lessons, assignments, and tests. I’d also highlight how easy it is to track your progress and communicate with teachers. Even though there’s no physical building, OVS still creates a structured and supportive learning environment that helps students stay on track and succeed.
(5) Admissions
The admissions process for Ontario Virtual School was very straightforward and easy to follow. I simply went to the website, selected the course I wanted to take (Grade 11 Chemistry), and filled out the registration form. The instructions were clear, and I received email confirmation quickly with the next steps, including how to log in and begin the course. It wasn’t stressful at all; in fact, I found it pretty smooth and efficient compared to traditional school processes. If I could give advice to someone planning to apply, I’d say make sure you have your personal information and school details ready, and don’t hesitate to contact support if you have questions—they’re quick to respond. Something I didn’t know at first was how fast you can start learning after registering. Overall, it was a simple and positive experience.
