(5) Student Experience
Ontario Virtual School has been a fantastic experience for me. I felt supported and confident in my learning throughout the course. I especially appreciated how easy it was to communicate with my teacher—she always responded quickly and provided valuable feedback. One feature I found extremely helpful was being able to submit assignments for review before final submission, which allowed me to improve my work and consistently achieve high-quality results. I earned a 97% in my Grade 12 Health and Nutrition course and genuinely enjoyed the material, even with my previous background in nutrition. One thing I wish I had known before enrolling is how independent-paced the learning really is—this can be great, but you do need to stay motivated. If I could change one thing, it might be adding optional live sessions or webinars for those who enjoy interactive learning.
(5) School Leadership
The teachers and staff at OVS were respectful, professional, and supportive. I always felt like they wanted me to succeed. My teacher responded quickly to emails and provided clear and encouraging feedback. What stood out most to me was the availability and willingness to review work before it was officially submitted—something that not every school allows. This shows a leadership culture focused on learning and improvement, not just grading. I didn’t interact with many administrators, but from my experience, the system ran smoothly, and that speaks to good leadership behind the scenes.
(5) Teaching
The teaching at Ontario Virtual School strikes a great balance between challenge and clarity. I never felt overwhelmed, but I was consistently pushed to apply what I learned in meaningful ways. Expectations were clearly outlined in each unit, and rubrics made it easy to know how to succeed. The ability to ask questions and receive quick, helpful answers also made it easier to stay on track. My teacher clearly wanted me to succeed, and I could tell that student growth mattered more than just grades. When teachers talked about success, it wasn’t just academic—it was also about lifelong health and smart decision-making. That made the learning feel relevant and personal. I have never had better support from teachers in an online course in my high school career.
(5) Academics
The coursework in my Grade 12 Health and Nutrition course felt appropriately challenging. I came in with some knowledge of basic nutrition, but with this in mind, I still learned a lot. The material was very practical, well organized, and clearly explained. Most importantly, I have already begun applying what I learned in real life. This summer, I am working as a cook at a nursing home and a local pub, and the knowledge I gained from this course has helped me make better food choices for others and myself. It was not just about memorizing content; it was about building habits and understanding food and health in a deeper way. This course has helped prepare me for both my jobs and for a healthier future.
(5) School Life
As an online school, OVS does not have a physical campus, but if I were giving a tour, I would start with the student portal. It is simple to navigate and well-organized, with everything from course content to assignment uploads in one place. Each course is clearly broken into manageable units, which helps reduce stress and makes independent learning more effective. There are no clubs or in-person events like in traditional schools, but for students who value flexibility and self-paced learning, OVS is a great option. The one thing I might change is offering optional student meet-ups or live webinars for a stronger sense of community. Still, I felt connected and supported, and that is what matters most. I would highly recommend this school for those interested in online learning.
(5) Admissions
The admissions process at OVS was very straightforward and stress-free. I found the course I wanted, signed up easily, and was given clear instructions for how to begin. Within a short time, I was enrolled and ready to start. The biggest tip I’d give to future students is to make sure you’re ready to manage your own time. While the structure is flexible, it’s up to you to keep moving forward. Knowing that in advance helps a lot. It wasn’t intimidating at all—in fact, it was the easiest school registration I’ve ever done.
