(5) Student Experience
I really enjoyed my Calculus course at OVS. I was able to learn all the concepts effectively and progress at my own pace, which helped me develop a clear and thorough understanding of the topics. I especially appreciated the one-on-one tutoring option, which allowed me to ask questions directly to my teacher. It helped clear up any doubts and ensured I had no misconceptions. I also loved how organized the course was, from the lessons to the tests, everything was laid out clearly. The Resources tab was very helpful, and the assignments deepened my understanding through visual learning. I experienced no technical issues or lag on the website, and my teacher was always responsive and supportive. I would definitely recommend OVS to any high school student looking to complete a course online. Give it a try, you’ll love it!
(5) School Leadership
The teacher was really helpful and answered all my questions thoroughly. Their response time was also great. I especially appreciated the one-on-one tutoring option, which allowed me to ask questions and clear any doubts. The school office was very responsive, too—I could easily get quick answers via email. The office staff were friendly and supportive. The teachers made sure every student got the help they needed, whether it was understanding a homework question or reviewing something from the textbook; they covered it all. I really enjoyed having these resources so readily available whenever I needed them. Whenever I was stuck on a question, my teacher would send me detailed answers and step-by-step explanations, and was always ready to follow up on any additional questions. This support truly helped me understand the concepts much better.
(5) Teaching
I always knew what my teacher expected of me, and the rubrics were really clear. Even when the workload felt overwhelming, asking my teacher helped clear up all my doubts. She went above and beyond to answer every question I had. Throughout the course, she encouraged me to do my best and provided all the resources and tips I needed to improve. I took calculus online, and it’s usually hard to focus in that setting, but OVS made it 100 times easier to stay on track by removing my confusion and doubts. Ultimately, my teacher wanted me to be happy with my mark, one that reflected my effort and hard work. Whenever I discussed my grades with her, she gave me useful advice on how to improve for the next test or assignment.
(5) Academics
The workload was just right, not too hard and not too easy. I took calculus, and found the vectors portion more challenging, while the calculus topics felt easier. The units started with simpler concepts and gradually progressed to more difficult ones, which helped me build a deeper understanding of the course. What I learned will definitely be useful later in life, as it also helped me develop important skills like responsibility, time management, and independence. The work was well-organized and spread evenly across different lessons. The homework reinforced my understanding and wasn’t just an add-on—it also covered important points that might have been missed during the lessons.
(5) School Life
Since this is an online school program, if I were giving a tour to a group of visitors, I would guide them through the Ontario Virtual School website. First, I would show them the lessons page, highlighting how neatly the content is organized by unit and how each unit is effectively broken down into smaller sections. Then, I’d introduce the resources tab to demonstrate the variety of tools and materials available to students. Next, I would navigate to the test center, explaining how easy it is to submit tests with clear instructions provided. After that, I’d show the dropbox tab for assignment submissions. Lastly, I would point out the 1-on-1 tutoring feature with the teacher, which is one of the most helpful tools for students who need extra support.
(5) Admissions
The admission process is very quick and can take up to two days. I would recommend applying before the busy periods, which are usually between semesters. You’ll need to submit some information, which is typically sent to you by email. There is also a payment involved, and I believe the price is quite reasonable compared to other online private courses. It’s better to start the course earlier than your regular school term if you want the flexibility to work at your own pace and take things slower.
