What BSS says about their university placement record and services:
- Mackenzie Cruz '24, University of Guelph, Applied Animal Biology: Thanks to BSS, I feel prepared and excited about my future. The school not only showed me new possibilities for university, but also helped me build essential connections in my field. BSS connected me with a mentor who will support me throughout my time at university, as I pursue my dream of becoming an equine surgeon. I'm excited to see where these opportunities take me.
- Sophie Niehaus '24, McMaster University, Engineering: Coming to BSS allowed me to become more confident, meet lifelong friends and strengthen my love for learning in a supportive environment. I developed a love for STEM and have had a chance to try new skills, leading me to pursue engineering in postsecondary. Without access to the exceptional education at BSS, I don't know that I would have had the confidence to choose a career in such a male-dominated field.
- Jessy Ye '24, New York University, Tisch School of the Arts, Film and TV Production: Through my time in the arts at BSS, I discovered my passion for storytelling through visual and written media such as photography, creative writing and film. BSS allowed me to experiment both theoretically and in a hands-on capacity, enabling me to grow as an artist and storyteller.
- Gabi Luk '24, Royal Veterinary College, Veterinary Medicine: I've had a passion for animals for a long time, but never knew how to take steps toward my goal, especially finding universities and completing applications. My counsellor was patient with me and helped me improve my essay-writing skills. My experience at BSS, in both Day school and Boarding, helped me become more independent and able to adapt to new environments.
- Vanessa Poon '24, Johns Hopkins University, Psychology and Dance: BSS offered many unique opportunities to discover more about myself and the world around me. Through various courses, projects, clubs and councils, I gained a well-rounded perspective of our society and a better understanding of different cultures and viewpoints. BSS fostered personal growth, critical thinking skills and empathy - qualities that have equipped me to contribute meaningfully to my community. The community in both the Day school and Boarding made a significant impact on me and will continue to shape my future, and I'm grateful to my teachers and counsellors who were incredibly supportive.
- Esme Lamacraft '24, University of Aberdeen, Direct Entry Medicine: While all courses at BSS equipped me with the knowledge and skills to navigate postsecondary, I benefited most from the science courses, which allowed me to gain hands-on experience that will serve me well as a future physician. My teachers' tremendous support, expertise and encouragement propelled me to follow my dreams of becoming a doctor. I also had the opportunity to participate in service leadership, which helped me foster empathy, patience, caring, determination and perseverance.
- Julia Schwartz '24, McMaster University, Health Sciences: My learning experience at BSS compares to no other. The faculty truly have a passion for teaching that pushes students to delve deeper into their learning. My teachers encouraged me to be active in my learning, to ask questions, be curious and take risks.
