The big picture on The Sterling Hall School
We summarized the school ourselves
Boys' schools often state that they know boys, or are boy-friendly, though too often those statements aren't qualified. The Sterling Hall School, thankfully, defines what they mean: energy, curiosity, and exploration. Certainly, boys from JK to Grade 8 typically have those in abundance, and the program at Sterling Hall is intended to focus things a bit, channeling those natural attributes toward higher order growth and understanding. Confidence, resilience, motivation, goals—we think that boys naturally have these, but they don't. That Sterling Hall places those kinds of values out front is telling of the overall instructional approach. The ideal student is one who can thrive in a structured, challenging, collaborative, and close-knit learning environment. Parent involvement in the life the of the school is both welcome and encouraged.

Watch our The Sterling Hall School Q&A discussion with Shelly (Parent), Nate (Student), Jack (Alum) to gain fresh insight into the school’s culture, values, and strengths.
Gr. 3 to Gr. 8 — My experience at Sterling Hall was incredibly meaningful and helped shape who I am today. From the very beginning, I felt welcomed by both the students and teachers, and I quickly became part of a close-knit community where everyone genuinely cared for one another. The school did a great job of encouraging us to get involved, whether through sports, clubs, leadership opportunities, or school-wide events, and I loved how different everyone’s interests were while still sharing the same school spirit. The academics were challenging, but the teachers made learning feel exciting and supportive, always making time for extra help without adding pressure. I really valued how the focus was on understanding and curiosity rather than just grades. Leadership was also a big part of my time at SHS, and by Grade 8, being on a leadership team and speaking in front of the school felt like something I was ready for because of how well the school prepared us. The campus itself played a huge role in my experience, too, with plenty of outdoor space to run around, play sports, and unwind with friends. Sterling Hall also did an amazing job of ensuring every single Grade 8 student had the resources to find the best high school for them, as they would host a school fair every fall and help to get you in touch with the admissions offices of those schools. Even now, as an alumnus, I’m still connected to SHS through alumni events and friendships that have lasted into university. Looking back, Sterling Hall was more than just a school; it was a place where I grew, found my passions, built lifelong friendships, and became part of a community I’ll always be proud to belong to.
Gr. 1 to Gr. 8 — As our son completes his final year at Sterling Hall, I look back in awe at the growth and development that was shaped in these hallways. Our family started our journey at SHS in grade 1, and we didn’t expect these foundational years to race by so quickly.
Sterling Hall embraced our son from the start. The faculty and staff provided a safe environment for him to be himself, build confidence and learn the importance of community.
He loved walking into the school each day with so many faculty and staff knowing his name. He felt recognized beyond his classroom. That warm welcome every day helps each boy start their day in such a positive way.
Another great aspect is the experiential trip at the beginning of each year. In the younger years, these are simply day trips to places like Tree Top Trekking and as the boys get older the trips become progressively longer overnights ranging from 2-5 days. It is a great way for the cohort to bond, welcome new students and get to know each other outside of the school environment.
JK to Gr. 8 — During my ten years at Sterling Hall, I grew exponentially as a person and a student thanks to the dedication and warmth that was shown to me by my teachers. The Sterling Hall community was a consistent, welcoming environment that made me excited to come to school every day. I can remember staying late in the afternoon to attend various clubs, get extra help with schoolwork, or just chat with my teachers. The halls of SHS were my second home for ten years and to this day I still remain very connected to not only the school itself but the teachers that taught me. I am very appreciative of having attended Sterling, I am grateful to have had my formative education at a school that instilled strong character in me and most importantly, taught me the importance of belonging and integrity.
