Additional notes: Third Academy operates their own fleet of school buses Highly trained school bus drivers are understand children with special needs and work with our Transportation Manager, Principals, and Teachers to ensure that riding the school bus is a positive experience for your child.
The level of bus service provided by Third Academy is based on individual student’s needs and our ability to operate a bus system effectively. Priority is given to students requiring a shared ride service but are unable to ride Calgary Transit and are ineligible for Access Calgary.
Depending on student need and road conditions, door-to-door service may be provided with most Third Academy students picked up a short distance from their home. Our bus drivers use cell phone text messaging to communicate with parents (only while parked at a safe location) to ensure parents and students know when to walk out to meet their bus.
It’s often said that, within the world of private schooling, there is a school to suit the needs of every learner. Certainly, Third Academy is an excellent demonstration of that. For more than two decades, the school has been providing academic support for students with a range of learning differences, both within the classroom setting and beyond. Parents look to the school to provide personal, tailored support for their learner, as well as heightened teacher student attention, and that’s precisely what they find. Learning assessment is offered on site by staff psychologists and SLP/OT therapists, and instruction is conducted by faculty with a wealth of experience within this academic segment. In all, it’s a full package, one designed to support academic and socio-emotional disabilities or disorders, and the school’s reputation for success is well earned. A sister program, recently recast as Willow Home Education, extends the work of Third Academy through support to parents who homeschool. The ideal student is one who isn’t thriving within a conventional school setting, and who can benefit from hands-on, student directed support and instruction.
We questioned the school adminstration
1. Who are you, as a school?
"Founded in 1997, Third Academy provides individualized programming to help children with mild, moderate, and severe learning disabilities or disorders succeed. We employ multiple teaching methodologies to modify instruction to the learner's specific needs. Our approach is to first “heal the heart” so that we can then “educate the mind” following the Alberta Program of Studies. Therapeutic supports include psychology, speech-language pathology, and occupational therapy. School bus service is available."
