There is lots of support for university applications.

Insights from current families, alumni, and school administrators illustrate that Trinity College School offers dedicated support for university admissions through comprehensive and personalized guidance, helping students navigate career paths in the U.S. and beyond.

There's somebody that specializes in U.S. admissions at Trinity College School. He noticed early on that I might be a candidate to attend school in the United States. He took an interest in me and helped coach me through that process, which was super valuable.
One of the main driving factors for me choosing TCS was this focus on career and post-high school life. I had a friend who went to TCS and I could see that they had the resources to really spend time with us to make sure that what we wanted to do after high school could be realized and achieved. I always wanted to go to medical school, but I didn't know exactly what routes there were for me, and TCS told me about the opportunity to do medical school overseas, which I'd never heard of before. And they fully supported me through that whole application process as well.
My daughter was assigned to a guidance counsellor who is available to them in Grade 11, to start the student thinking about course selection and what their plans are for post-secondary education. The student is encouraged to research the area and different programs that they are interested in. After researching the different programs the student is asked to record and rank the universities of choice and best suited with their academic standing. By doing all this in Grade 11 the student is prepared and ready to apply to university in Grade 12. In Grade 12 the guidance counsellor and the student meet approximately every two weeks to ensure support and deadlines are met. Even when I had questions as a parent, I was able to make an appointment with the Head of Guidance to review the process and put my mind at ease.

Students benefit from a strong academic foundation.

Feedback from students and parents underscores the robust academic environment at Trinity College School, emphasizing the benefits of early exposure to advanced placement courses and strategic planning that starts as early as Grade 10, all aimed at preparing students for university-level work.

I love my career in computer science. I'm still really grateful to my computer science teacher at Trinity College School, and the opportunity that I got at Harvard University to study computer science.
I liked that you could challenge yourself at Trinity College School. AP courses were offered. That made College much easier because I came in with credits. Suddenly I looked at my transcript, and I graduated with my bachelor's degree a year early. One of the reasons I was able to do that is because I came in with some AP credits that seemed like a nuisance to get as a high school student but then super useful as a university student. I think the academics were quite good at Trinity College School. They were nice and sparked interests in me that I’m still feeding off of.
I came to university very well equipped. I'm in law school now and I feel comfortable. I tell my friends that my work at law school is very close to my AP standard at TCS.

There are abundant opportunities with the alumni network.

Observations from students and alumni suggest that the array of opportunities at Trinity College School, coupled with a strong, supportive alumni network, fosters long-term personal and professional growth.

I was lucky to attend an entrepreneur's dinner while I was at Harvard University, where I met all sorts of really amazing alumni from Trinity College School. I got my first tech internship through one of them. I ended up working at Strava, an app based around running and cycling in San Francisco. That opportunity got me my first tech internship, and from there, I was able to get an internship with Facebook and ultimately worked there full time.
Two years out, the things that I did at TCS are getting me executive positions at clubs at McGill. And I also just got hired at Deloitte, and the person who hired me told me a big reason he hired me was my research experience at TCS that differentiated me. If you're doing things that you love, if you find your communities, find people that are doing what you love, it's not going to feel like work. It's just going to feel like a place that you want to be.
I watched my son go off to university this year with so much confidence. It was awesome. His connection back into the Trinity College School community is amazing. He's come back this summer, and that's his world. He's reconnected with all these buddies, whether he's going on camping trips with them, visiting Toronto, out here in Port Hope. That's really cool, that he continues that sense of community, and I think the school really fosters that.

There is support for self-directed decision-making.

Statements from community members highlight the school's dedication to fostering self-advocacy and independence in students, an approach that permeates their university counseling and overall preparation.

We want our students to feel that when they move on to university or afterwards, they're better prepared to face the slings and arrows that life is going to send them; that they can reflect back on a pretty rigorous, pretty active school life and say, ‘Oh, I remember it was pretty tough. I remember being this busy. I remember being this worried. I remember thinking I wouldn't make this team. I remember I wasn't sure if I was going to make friends. I wasn't sure if I was going to fall flat on my face when I had to do this public speaking thing. But I succeeded. I did it.’ And so later in life, they will say, ‘I know I can handle these kinds of circumstances going forward’.
I was very hesitant about computer science, because I grew up in a medical family. In Grade 9 at Trinity College School, I took a class that had a little bit of computer science. I loved it, but even then, I was still pushing it away. ... A teacher at Trinity College School would ask me every time I passed him in the hall, ‘so when will you take AP computer science? You liked it.’ I was like, ‘I know, but there are too many other AP classes, I can't do it. Anyway, he persisted, every time he saw me, he smiled, and he said, ‘we'd really love to have you in AP computer science.’ I ended up taking both the Grade 11 and 12 computer science at Trinity College School and loved it. By the time I got to college, I was pretty sure that I wanted to do computer science. Then I took the intro to computer science at Harvard University, which locked it in. From there, I was off to the races.
The guidance process is very comprehensive and focuses on the students being as self-sufficient as possible. The students take guidance courses and have an assigned guidance contact for questions and planning. The department is well versed in local, national and international offerings and requirements. Students also have a social-emotional counsellor available to them should the need arise. As I stated they guide the students in a way that allows them to navigate the application process fairly independently. This is a common way for TCS to teach students to advocate for themselves in all ways of student life at TCS and beyond. There is a collective attitude to further studies with staff and students alike while understanding the traditional and non-traditional opportunities that are available.
