Schools such as these are devoted to fostering boys’ unique learning styles and the development and encouragement of their individual needs and interests. Their passions and ideas can be cultivated and promoted through a variety of courses, activities, and programs that reinforce their learning and growth over time.

Benefits of your son attending an all-boys secondary school

Boys' secondary schools are ideal for teenage boys looking to evolve their interests in a safe atmosphere where they can express their thoughts and opinions without feeling self-conscious in ways that they might be around young women.

At this important stage of development, when moments of feeling awkward or uncertain are plentiful, boys school students have a lot of support from strong role models and peers as they develop their identities and build self-confidence.

In this atmosphere, boys have many opportunities to ask questions and explore their passions with the necessary support to reach their goals during the school year and beyond.

Types of high schools for boys

Many private all-boys high schools also offer a boarding option where students live in residential facilities, participate in extracurricular activities, and get additional support all on the same campus. Though curricula vary widely by school, all of them provide a range of humanities and social sciences, mathematics, natural sciences, sports, arts, and languages courses as well as social and academic clubs, and AP or IB programs.

Tutoring may also be provided before or after school along with learning study assistance, career planning services, university counseling, and exchange programs, among a selection of additional benefits.

Costs of boys' secondary schools

The costs associated with an all-boys high school depend on several different factors, including the location and type of school. Some have tuition fees starting around $5,000 while others vary between $18,000, $29,000, and $49,000, or higher based on their services, particularly boarding.

There are a variety of ways to pay for boys' secondary schools—with scholarships, bursaries, and financial aid, for instance. Find out more about resources that can help you afford this type of school with these 18 tips to pay for private school.

Choosing a high school for your son

It may seem difficult to choose the right school for your son with so many different options available. However, the process doesn’t have to be daunting.

Start by thinking about your son’s needs first and foremost and speak to an advisor or educational consultant if you feel it will help assess his interests and needs. Then research different schools based on the factors that are important to your family and involve your son in the process. Compare profiles, explore school websites, and attend annual school fairs like the Our Kids Private School Expos, or plan to visit the school for a private tour or during their Open Houses.

Bring your son along if possible to experience the atmosphere and prepare questions to ask school staff, current students, or even the parents of current students.  Develop your shortlist of schools your family is interested in applying to and continue with the application process from there.
