Camp Tournesol is a summer day camp focused entirely around having fun, while improving your camper's French ability! With amazing activities that build French vocabulary, fluency and confidence, Camp Tournesol has program levels for campers newer to French all the way to those with French immersion proficiency. They'll leave with new friends, awesome memories, and a newfound ease in the French language!

The Our Kids review of Camp Tournesol
Camp Tournesol was founded in 2001 by Martine Brouillet as a means of supporting language learning through the summer months, while also providing francophone environment for francophone campers. In, it was one of the truly dual-immersion programs in the GTA. Because of the language support, as well as the breadth of activities on offer, the camp has grown exponentially over the years, now including 19 locations and nearly 3000 participants through the summer season. The days are active, including team sports, games, as well as arts and crafts, drama, field trips, music—the full gamut of active, engaged camp programming. The camps also provide a unique environment for language learning, one beyond the classroom or school setting. For kids in French immersion, it’s a valuable opportunity to use the language less formally, building fluency and activity specific vocabulary.

Director's Message
I am honoured to introduce myself as the new Executive Director of Camp Tournesol, succeeding our esteemed founder, Martine Brouillet. Martine’s dedication over the past two decades has been instrumental in establishing Camp Tournesol as a leader in French summer camps across the Greater Toronto Area. Her passion for French education and commitment to creating engaging, immersive experiences have left an indelible mark on countless campers and their families.
As we embark on this new chapter, I am excited to share some of the enhancements we have planned for our programs, all while upholding the core values that have defined Camp Tournesol since its inception. Our mission remains steadfast: to provide a nurturing environment where all children can develop their French language skills through fun and interactive activities
What’s New?
- Expanded Program Offerings: We are introducing new themed weeks, such as “Harry Potter Wizarding World” and “Rock Star Boot Camp,” designed to captivate our campers’ imaginations and make learning French an adventure.
- Enhanced Program Streams: We’ve refined our program streams to better support campers of all French proficiency levels. Whether your child is in French Immersion, Core French, or a Francophone program, our tailored camps provide engaging, level-appropriate activities that help them develop confidence and fluency while having fun.
- Water Days Are Back: One of the most cherished traditions at Camp Tournesol is making a splash—literally! This year, we are excited to bring back water days spent at local splash pads. These outings not only provide relief from the summer heat but also create joyful memories for our campers as they bond with friends and counsellors in a fun and refreshing setting.
- Expanding Across Ontario: We are thrilled to announce plans to expand Camp Tournesol to more communities across Ontario. By growing our footprint, we aim to provide even more families with access to our unique French language programs. Whether it’s through new camp locations or partnerships with local organizations, we’re committed to bringing the Camp Tournesol experience to as many children as possible.
While we embrace these exciting changes, the essence of Camp Tournesol remains unchanged. Our dedicated team of dynamic and engaging French-speaking counsellors continues to create a nurturing atmosphere that naturally motivates our campers to speak French. We are committed to maintaining the high standards of safety, inclusivity, and fun that have been the hallmark of our camps.
I am thrilled to lead Camp Tournesol into this new era and look forward to building upon the strong foundation that Martine has established. Together with our talented team, I am committed to providing your children with memorable experiences that foster a love for the French language and culture.

Growing up with Camp Tournesol
I have been a camper at Camp Tournesol from the very beginning. As a camper, every summer I would look forward to Camp Tournesol because I got to see my friends and the same counsellors year after year. When I was too old to be a camper and had to choose to be a counsellor in training (CIT) or not go to camp, I automatically chose to become a CIT. I had had such a good time as a camper that I did not want the fun to end. As a CIT I learned the ropes of what it was like to be a counsellor; teaching different games, starting thousands of friendship bracelets for campers and most importantly showing the campers it is easy to have fun while speaking French. When it came time for me to be a counsellor I was all for it. My first year working as a counsellor was with people who had been my counsellor when I was a camper. They became my Camp Tournesol family. All the counsellors are extremely friendly and supportive, and when you or the campers, run into a problem they are there to help you out. I come back to work at Camp Tournesol year after year because I have developed friendships with all the other counsellors along with getting to see the same kids come back, see them grow and see their French improve. From camper to CIT to counsellor I have seen every aspect of the camp and I believe the best thing that Camp Tournesol offers to the campers is it shows them they can have fun speaking French.
