This program is designed to build the following character traits:

  • Interpersonal skills: Across the 4-week program, participants will learn from their mentors, work with their peers, and facilitate programming for younger campers.
  • Responsibility: OLC participants will be participating in seminars and workshops throughout the program. They are responsible for applying their knowledge from these sessions to their camp based practicums.

The Outdoor Leadership Course (OLC) is intended to provide the foundational tools for enriching ecological knowledge, fostering a growth mindset and exploring professional pathways. OLC participants will be mentored by seasoned outdoor educators to practice their leadership and communication skills, participate in seminars & workshops, earn certifications to build their resumes and gain insights about potential educational and career opportunities in the outdoor and recreational fields.

As part of the program, OLC participants will also earn 50 hours in a camp-based practicum focused on experiential and practical learning, which can be applied towards their Ontario High School Diploma.
