There’s a lot of history in the region, and both Suzanna Moodie and Catherine Parr Traill settled here. For them, and those to follow, the region offered the best of a number of different worlds, including arable land, and proximity to transportation, most notably in the Trent-Severn Waterway, now home to a number of national historic sites.
Thankfully the area isn’t as rustic as it was in Moodie’s day, but it still retains a close association to outdoor activities.
