Minden is the largest community in the Minden Hills township, a region first settled due to the wealth of timber. Times, of course, have changed, and today the area—trees all grown back—is central to some of the most scenic recreational and cottage country in the province. A great resource for the region is the Haliburton School of Art + Design run by Fleming College, which acts as a lightning rod for the arts community, and the area is remarkably rich in private studios. Glass blowing, painting, weaving and beyond, the community continues to grow year-over-year.
There are some very traditional camps here and nearby, including some of the oldest overnight camps in the country. That said, the proximity to cottages has allowed for a broader range of programming that you might find elsewhere, including adventure programs, both overnight and day. The rich arts culture has an effect as well, bringing an impressive range of programming, from paddling, to pottery, to parasailing on Lake Kashagawigamog.
