  • Why it matters

While some researchers have looked to uncover the "ideal" school size, these studies often generalize student preferences and behaviours. Your real goal is to find what best suits your child’s needs. Smaller schools can offer a school-wide sense of connection, while larger schools often provide broader programming and opportunities. Also, note that per-grade enrollment often tells a more meaningful story than total enrollment alone (read topic guide).

Gender

Both girls and boys attend.

This makes Bond Academy like 91% of other schools we cover.

  • Why it matters

A school’s gender composition influences its social, academic, and extracurricular experiences. Coed schools often encourage collaboration across genders, while single-gender schools (all-boys or all-girls) may focus on specialized learning approaches (read topic guide).

International Students

30% of students come from outside Canada.

See how this ranks Bond Academy below.

  • Why it matters

A diverse international student body offers opportunities for cultural exchange and a global perspective. These experiences can enhance your child’s understanding of different cultures and prepare them for a globalized world (read topic guide).

Qualitative insights

These insights are based on conversations with parents, alumni, and school leadership. Handpicked and curated by our editor, they offer a close look at how the school is experienced and perceived by those who know it best.

Students actively participate in a mutually supportive environment.

Feedback from parents reflects that Bond Academy provides a welcoming, safe, and supportive environment where students feel happy and motivated to attend school everyday.

The personality traits of Bond Academy would be familial and caring. Even now, I go back now and then to see the teachers and see who's there and whatnot. Because of the sense of family at Bond Academy, and because it's so small, everyone gets to know you. They care about your education and your well-being, and they try to push you in different ways, and try to make you more of a complete person.
We were coming from another private school where two of my children were being severely bullied. I recall feeling so comforted by that when I visited Bond Academy. I recall walking into their office and explaining my situation, where I felt that my children were being threatened. And I remember they sat down with me and were being so warm and comforting, explaining to me that that's not the way things work at our school.
Now I have a happy child that enjoys coming to school. He's up at 7 in the morning, because we have to travel to come to school, always with a smile, happy to come to school. And there is no challenge of having to coerce him or coax him out of the door. He wants to come to school. I know my son is creating a strong foundation to get to his Grade 12 year next year. Whatever he wishes to do, he's going to be ready to do it.

They benefit from small class sizes and personalized attention.

Student testimonials indicate that Bond Academy’s small class sizes and personalized attention from teachers help students develop confidence and individuality, preparing them well for future academic and social challenges.

Bond Academy offers a very close and small classroom that helps make better connections within the classroom itself, but also sets students up for success within the classroom academically. After graduating from Bond Academy and chatting with other students and friends from other schools I found that my classroom sizes of about 4 to 12 people were unusual. The teacher gets to know each student. Within the smaller environment, students are more active in classroom participation and we get to know each other better.
We’re very happy here. Bond Academy is a great place. It's very warm. Yes, it was a smaller class size. It did have individual instruction, all the extras. But beyond it, it exceeded my expectations. It really did with a sense of community, dedication from the teachers, the open communication that's always their ongoing. Where can you really get all that?
I was very shy when I first started Bond. And over time, especially throughout high school, I developed into a much more outgoing person, because of the nurturing that I managed to get from them. The classes there are very small, so there's a lot of individual time in regards to the teachers paying attention to you and then being really able and capable of seeing the potential in each individual student.

Students have a sense of belonging at the school.

Observations from students and alumni suggest that Bond Academy’s tight-knit community, characterized by close relationships across grade levels and a familial atmosphere, fosters a strong sense of belonging and personal growth.

I think what differentiates Bond Academy is the sense of community and the opportunities that present themselves while you're there. When I was at Bond Academy, I was on the basketball team, and I was on the soccer team, I did football, I did everything. I didn't know that most people didn't do those things because I had been at Bond Academy for so long. When you see high schools on TV, you see each grade hanging out with their grade level. For example, if you're in Grade 12, you hang out with Grade 12’s. When I was at Bond Academy in high school, I would hang out with the Grade 8’s, teachers, and all the high school students. In elementary school, multiple grades would hang out also.
We were all very close at Bond Academy. We basically did everything together, and our class was the same from Grade 2 onward. I'll still talk to people from elementary school, and definitely people from high school.
Coming from a high school where it's already a very small population and everybody is close-knit, you really begin to see that that also shapes your perspective on things. You learn to make better choices. You understand where your limits are, what you should and shouldn't be doing. And then that really gives you the ability to reach out and be more open to talking to so many more people, getting so many more insights, and really being able to spread your wings.

They benefit from a diverse and inclusive community.

Observations from students and parents highlight that Bond Academy's culturally diverse and interconnected community fosters a unique environment where students from various backgrounds engage and learn from each other.

So they are very open-minded to new ideas. They're always reaching new heights. They're always trying to connect everybody in regards to what's happening in the world, always keeping an open mind towards not only different ideas, but different cultures. And then you really get to experience a lot of diversity.
I think what they would find surprising is that even though we have a very high volume of international students, I would say how connected everybody stays. Just in regards to everybody mingling with everyone. So, especially the high school because it's so small. I guess you can say this goes into some of the grades as well, because everybody tends to know each other. But from Grade 9 to Grade 12, there's not really a section off your typical high school where everybody stays to themselves. Everybody's interconnected. So I think that's very surprising, usually.
I think it is such a different environment from so many other public and private schools. Just because of how the population differs. Not only are you getting your private school experience, you're also seeing how many different cultures come in and out. You get to mix with so many different people. You get to learn so much about the world. And it is such an eye-opening experience, and you really get to be able to understand just so many different points of views.

Students build confidence through exploring their passions.

Comments from students and alumni suggest that Bond Academy encourages personal growth and helps students build confidence through opportunities to explore new interests and take on leadership roles.

Bond Academy shaped me confidence-wise because in high school we did this competition where was it like a quiz with a whole bunch of other schools, and I was on a team of them. Usually in school you do things like that in your school, but not with six other schools. I'm not that outgoing, and Bond Academy increased my confidence in interacting with other people on a larger scale.
So for me, going into Bond, I was very shy. Especially going into a class full of kids who were already familiar with each other, I had always felt like an odd one out, just because I always tended to be more athletic than your typical girls at that age. Then going into Bond, I really got to nurture that. And instead of it turning into a quality that I decided not to pursue, I absolutely ended up loving sports. I was given the opportunity to play on basketball teams. We have the girls' teams, and I excelled there. I really enjoyed it. So from that, we actually ended up... I became captain and team leader. And that was something that I always turned out to be very proud of. So not only did I learn to indulge in new things, but then also I could learn to be more social, learn to not be as scared.
I would say for any students entering Bond at any point in time, I would like to tell you to just don't be afraid to be yourself. Try out new things. Test to see things that you like, that you don't like, and just enjoy your time while you're there. Just be as free as you can. There's nothing to be shy or afraid or concerned about. Everybody there will support you for what you're doing, and it'll help you develop into an amazing person for sure.

They become well-rounded and well-prepared for future challenges.

Comments from parents and alumni indicate that Bond Academy focuses on developing well-rounded individuals who are prepared for both academic success and future career challenges.

I felt like Bond Academy prepared me for university a lot more than I thought. I didn't really appreciate it at the time, but I was ready for everything when I went to university. Bond Academy is such a small community, so I think it's easier for each student’s voice to be heard. You can just be who you are.
Bond Academy creates and develops a well-rounded person. They create a person that is open-minded, kind, and understands that diversity. They really prepare the child for the real world, not just the academic world, not just the school life. The outcome of attending Bond Academy is a child that not only can successfully work at a university level but in the future, in the career that they will pursue, they will have foundations around a personality that has been developed, that is well-rounded. In my own job, the people that I hire have to be well-rounded people, not only skilled to do the job, but also a diverse, positive, energetic, compassionate and understanding of each other's values and culture, and that's what Bond brings.

They build local community connections and discover opportunities.

Experiences shared by international students and alumni reveal that Bond Academy provides resources for cultural adjustment and active involvement in local community activities, enriching the overall educational journey.

From day one at Bond Academy I’ve been culturally connected to the local community. I got to participate in non-profit fundraising events, and Bond Academy helped me to know more about Canadian culture after coming from another culture. But also, Bond set me up for academic success. I wish I could have stayed longer and had more experience in the academic system and also more chances to participate in community events, which I tried my best to experience to the fullest, but I just think the time was too short.
In regards to the international population, I noticed that when they come here, they're very open to new experiences. They love to interact with everybody, learn new things. They'll always be asking us for opinions and everything, and where or not all our local hotspots are. And then in return, they'll explain to us the differences and how things work, and you really get to get a good understanding and a good idea of the culture. So I would say typically very adventurous, very open-minded, very friendly and welcoming.
Bond Academy set up many resources to help me transition culturally from another country. When I first arrived in Canada to go to Bond Academy, it was very much a culture shock from the moment I got off the plane. I really appreciate the relationships made throughout my time there, not just the relationships with all my classmates and making some friends, but the teachers and the staff teams are also really helpful and resourceful. The relationships made it better to experience my first time in high school, in a new school in a new country.
