Benefits of your daughter attending a girls' elementary school

In an all-girls elementary school, curricula are built to foster girls’ specific learning styles and boost their confidence in tackling a wide range of subjects, including arts, science, and technology.

Within this type of atmosphere young girls are encouraged to explore their interests in a variety of areas, develop their own identities further, and gain more self-assurance to pursue their goals in and outside of the classroom without feeling self-conscious.

Various studies conducted also suggest that girls thrive in a single-sex environment regardless of their capabilities and backgrounds.

Types of elementary schools for girls

Day school is the primary option for all-girls elementary schools with boarding available into high school, if the school offers programming for later years. The type of curriculum varies by school but can include everything from Christian to Waldorf methodologies, and APIB (even in the primary years in some cases), and feminist programs.

Before and after school programs may also be provided, with tutoring and learning study assistance, and a diverse offering of languages, humanities and social sciences, mathematics, natural sciences, technology, sports, arts and academic or social clubs.

Costs of girls' elementary schools

Depending on the type of school and location, the cost will vary. Some start in the lower $5,000 to $9,000 range while others vary between $16,000 and $29,000 or higher, factoring in features such as boarding facilities. But there are a number of ways to pay for private elementary schools, such as scholarships, bursaries and finding financial aid. Get more advice on ways to pay with these 18 tips you need to know.

Choosing an elementary school for your daughter

Narrowing down a list of private schools may seem overwhelming but choosing the right school fit doesn’t have to be a stressful process. Consider your daughter’s needs first and foremost and speak to an educational consultant if you feel it will help to assess her individual interests and needs, and how certain types of schools might benefit her.

Research those schools and involve your child in the process and visit school websites or annual school fairs like the Our Kids Private School Expos. Plan to visit the school for a private tour or during their open houses and bring your daughter along if possible to experience the atmosphere and prepare some questions to ask school officials or current students, as well as the parents of current students. Create a shortlist of a few schools your family is interested in applying to and go from there.
