Group tutoring programs are offered all across the country. Whether you live in a big city or a small town, you’re sure to find one close by.
In addition to group tutoring programs, there are other ways to provide your child with academic support. A few of the main options are outlined below.
Tutoring and learning centres: offer a variety of programs that make learning engaging and fun.
Individual tutoring programs: provide one-on-one individualized support for a range of subjects.
Education programs: offer rigorous out of school learning in areas such as science, STEM, computer programming, and robotics.
Tutoring programs and classes provide academic support for kids of all ages. This includes students struggling with school work, those who simply want to improve, as well as high-achievers looking for enrichment.
These programs help students with homework, assignments, tests, and all other school work. They also help kids with their study skills, including but not limited to test-taking, note-taking, time-management, communication, concentration, organization, executive functioning, and more.
Tutoring programs offer instruction in a variety of subjects, such as English, math, science, history, and writing. They provide support in these subjects, and often, personalize instruction to the needs of individual students.
Many tutoring and learning centres offer group tutoring. Unlike individual one-on-one tutoring, group tutors work with more than one student at the same time and place. The size of the group will vary with the program, with anywhere between two and ten students.
In group tutoring, session goals are designed for the needs of the group. That said, some individualized instruction is offered.
In the group format, tutors need to be skilled at meeting the needs and expectations of a wide array of students. In addition to providing instruction, they’ll often need to lead and facilitate using various strategies, such as asking questions, initiating discussion, and working through exercises and problems.
While some students are best suited for one-on-one tutoring, group tutoring has a number of distinct benefits. Below, we discuss three of the main ones.

Your child’s questions get answered
If your child shows a below average understanding of a subject, a small tutoring group is often preferable. The tutor will be able to answer their questions, and accommodate theirlearning style and pace better than in a large group.
It’s easier to ask for clarification
Some children may be too shy to ask their classroom teacher for clarification on the lessons. In a small group, instructors can assess your child’s learning needs, tailor a lesson plan for them, and encourage them to ask questions in a less intimidating setting.
Accommodating different learning styles
In a small group, it’s easier for the tutor to pinpoint your child’s strengths and weaknesses. By identifying areas that can be improved, the tutor can personalize lesson plans. To a great extent, they can follow your child’s lead regarding how they like to work.
When looking for the right tutoring program, you’ll need to focus on what’s important to you and your child. This may include location, cost, instructional approach, and scheduling, among other things.
