    Description:

At Metropolitan Preparatory Academy, admissions is a selective but welcoming process focused on finding the right match between each student and our community. Families begin by submitting a full application online at www.metroprep.com/apply. Once received, we invite applicants for an in-person interview, where we review recent report cards and have meaningful conversations to understand the student's strengths, character, aspirations, and potential.

The interview is the most important step. It allows us to get to know the student and family personally and assess whether MetroPrep’s environment—built on academic excellence, mentorship, and personal growth—will be the right fit for their journey. We are looking for students who are motivated, open-minded, respectful, and ready to work toward becoming the best version of themselves.

Our goal is to partner with families who share our commitment to helping students unlock their full potential and achieve success at top universities and beyond.

  • Why it matters

Understanding admission requirements is crucial as you assess your fit with a school and the likelihood of acceptance. These requirements often reflect the school's educational priorities.

Qualitative insights

These insights are based on conversations with parents, alumni, and school leadership. Handpicked and curated by our editor, they offer a close look at how the school is experienced and perceived by those who know it best.

The review process showed that they were more interested in learning about our children as individuals, rather than wanting to see whether they fit into a mold that they predetermined was necessary to attend that school. And that was very important for us, that the individual and what they had to bring was the focus, and not whether they fit the mold for that particular school. The school values a kind of education that is for the individual, not having to fit in a particular mold.
I'd recommend that if you're looking for a new school for your child, then go speak to one of the faculty members at Metro Prep, or speak to a family member of a student who has attended Metro Prep. I would not do anything differently. I'm very happy that my daughter attended Metro Prep and I would recommend that if you're looking for a new school, then make an appointment, speak to Principal Mckelvey, speak to a guidance counselor, go to an open house of Metro Prep and see for yourself. It'll be the right choice.
My son had previously gone to a Montessori school, with a focus on hands-on learning, communication skills, and teamwork. And we're looking for a middle school, high school that can continue him down the same path. We visited quite a few schools looking for small class sizes, a close-knit community of teachers, students, and staff, and above all, academic excellence. Metro Prep fits the bill.
