Vancouver private school rankings

OUR KIDS ranks Vancouver schools to help you find schools that best match your needs

Find OUR KIDS' rankings of Greater Vancouver private schools below. When browsing these, mind what matters most: your child(ren)’s individual needs. As with the schools themselves, OUR KIDS believes any focus on rankings is mistaken. Ranking lists can offer limited value if used carefully as one small part of a broader research process. If you consult them, do so with the following precautions in mind:

Explore the complete list of Vancouver private schools on OUR KIDS, the guide families trust to make the right choice.

We offer more worthwhile advice elsewhere. School reports are your richest source of information. Our school expos offer parents the opportunity to speak to schools in depth. Finding the right school for your child(ren) should be a deep process where you start with the basics, understand all your options, and make a fully informed choice. The lists below should be used as a nominally helpful tool in that much larger process.

At the Vancouver Private School Expo, meet face-to-face with top-ranked local schools and a few international boarding schools.  There are also Q&A information seminars led by education experts who’ll address your concerns and shed light on vital topics related to making the right school choice. You can also meet with admissions teams from each school and gain valuable insights from current parents who have experienced the journey firsthand. Click here for details and to RSVP.

Best university placement

Below are Greater Vancouver private schools (listed with OUR KIDS) ranked by their university placement. University placement is understandably important to many parents paying private school tuition, and who want the very best for their child(ren)'s future. The list below is ranked by how many of each private high school's graduates have been accepted into 12 of the world's top universities (Harvard, Yale, Princeton, University of Pennsylvania, Dartmouth, Brown, Columbia, Cornell, Stanford, University of Chicago, Oxford, or Cambridge) in the last five years. The arbitrariness of that list speaks to the limitations of this and all school rankings.

2 Mulgrave School West Vancouver, BC PS to 12 21

5 Alexander Academy Vancouver, BC 10 to 12 1

Lowest admission rates

Schools that are difficult to get into would seem to be in high demand, an indication of how good the school is. However, it's much more important that parents focus on the needs of child(ren) in the school search. Below are schools ranked on their reported acceptance rates. This list might also be helpful to families who want a cursory look at the chances of getting into these schools.

School Location Grades Acceptance

1 Mulgrave School West Vancouver, BC PS to 12 17%

Smallest class sizes

Many parents focus on the issue of class size as one factor that might make a school better for their child(ren). This is understandable, but remember that there is much more to the educational environment of any school. In any case, private schools often promise smaller class sizes and a better teacher-student ratio. Among private schools there is variation in this ratio, as seen below.

School Location Grades Avg. class size
1 Whytecliff Agile Learning Centre - Burnaby Burnaby, BC 8 to 12 3 to 6
2 Whytecliff Agile Learning Centres Langley, BC 8 to 12 3 to 6
3 Fraser Academy Vancouver, BC 2 to 12 7 to 12

Top private high schools for sports

For students who have a strong athletic inclination, there is an obvious appeal to schools with more sports programs. Private schools throughout Greater Vancouver (that list with OUR KIDS) are ranked below on the basis of the number of sports programs and teams they offer. Schools with a greater number of athletics programs would likely create a more competitive environment.

Most expensive private schools

Some people mistakenly equate the most expensive with the best. This is not a good assumption to make, of course. It may be true that schools charging a higher tuition will be able to provide superior facilities, hire some of the most qualified instructors and offer other very high quality amenities and features. However, many Greater Vancouver private schools charging lower tuition rates produce top tier graduates who go on to highly successful careers and lives. Along with schools themselves, we preach the importance of searching for a school that is the right fit for your child. Any focus on a superficial ranking like the one below is misguided.

School Location Grades Tuition
1 St. George's School Vancouver, BC K to 12 $33,300 to $94,800

6 Brockton School North Vancouver, BC JK to 12 $27,200 to $30,600
7 Pear Tree School Vancouver, BC K to 8 $23,232 to $30,190
